I was hired at Vendaria in a position as a software
developer to develop backend web server components in Visual Basic as my previous experience was in maintaining ASP code as system analyst/web database administrator at Wall Data. In my time at Vendaria there was a greater need for a scalable customer reporting system which I built using ASP, SQL Server and JavaScript, later this was branded as a product called Capture(tm). When this system reached maintenance levels, I moved on to developing another internal tool which measured Streaming Server Network performance levels and dynamically switched our network usage to use the best performing network based on historic and current network performance. This program branded Cadence(tm) ran daily, was designed in Visual Basic, used a centrally located XML configuration and was scheduled to be deployed as a number of statistic gathering agents nationally. I also designed XML schema for Vendaria's content delivery lists used by Amazon.com and Wal*Mart
Concurrently to developing these applications we had no formal IT staff, I assisted in many of the original LAN WAN development design and documentation, later I interviewed candidates to relieve me in this area. I implemented Vendaria's four interface Linux firewall, DMZ network, test lab network, VPN, NT Domain, backhaul T1, data T1, RAID File Servers, web server replication system, replicating SQL servers, our primary bank of origin servers at a colocation facility, and secondary bank in house using a Linux virtual server load balancing system for high availability. Similarly I managed a set of gray market (no support) BIG/ip HA units for our primary production site saving 10's of thousands over our previously managed units.
The new IT department grew to a height of four personnel, but then declined at which time I rejoined and oversaw critical projects, performed 24/7 response services and aided in designing Vendaria's disaster plan and security policy which helped win approval for servicing clients such as Amazon.com and AOL. I kept abreast of security related information and insured that our systems were not vulnerable to the latest threats.
When our chief architect left I was entrusted to maintain the C# .NET code that ran our platform and also charged with deploying production code from Visual Source Safe. As I was involved in most core projects and end-to-end processes I was assigned odd jobs and research tasks to explore better and cost effective methods and processes. Vendaria's video on demand platform was optimized for dial up performance based on studies reports and formulas from myself, created by reviewing underlying protocols and delivery methods together with data from the Cadence system. I currently perform critical maintenance for Vendaria on an as needed basis.
I enjoy working with Linux solutions,
furthering development of my C/C++ education and being exposed to
people with these talents.
